Die-cutting polyethylene foams, zero concavity die-stamping
Die-cutting machines for punching closed cell foams have in the past been semi-automatic and ranged in size from the small swing beam, or clicker presses' through the medium size travelling head presses up to the larger flat beds which will take full size foam sheets.

Whilst utilising all of these types of press, we also run an automatic cnc moving head model with automatic table which can be loaded with sheets or rolls of foam, programmed and left to run. This machine has an auto nesting facility so there is minimal waste thus reducing unit costs.

Traditionally tooling known as cutting formes for these machines is made from steel rule bent to shape and inserted into wooded housing.

The pressure of the head punching into the foam blocks cuts out the required shapes out. This is a relatively quick method of production which means prices can be low for foam parts produced in this fashion.

Die-cutting pe foams, including Plastazote, Evazote, Ethafoam and Stratocell, leaves a concavity on the edges where the foam is crushed under the head and then cut through as the blade hits the cutting board.

At Polyformes we have managed to introduce a system that can cut without leaving this 'bible backing' as it is commonly known. Our zero concavity punching is ideal when finished goods will be used in the presentation or beauty industries.
