Foam Book Supports for Libraries, Museums and Archives
Christopher Clarkson Book Supports
Christopher Clarkson, the well known archivist from the Bodleian Library in Oxford, teamed up with Polyformes over 20 years ago to design and develop the Clarkson Book Support System. This design for book supports, which vastly reduces damage to bound materials, now features prominently in reading rooms around the world. The system has been enthusiastically welcomed by librarians, curators and readers in museums, libraries and universities globally.
The Clarkson Book Support System is manufactured from a specially selected foam and is designed to support all types of publications from rare manuscripts to modern computer manuals. The design allows the book support to be adjusted to provide the optimum support to the publication no matter what the type of spine.
The Book Support System comes in three sizes, small, medium and large. Optional weighted snakes are available for holding the pages down.

Each Christopher Clarkson Book Support set contains:

  • 1 x 20 degree Wedge
  • 2 x Side Wedges
  • 2 x Rectangular Pads
  • 1 x Spine support
The size of the 20 degree wedge is as follows for the 3 different sizes -

  • Large Set Wedge - 760 x 470mm
  • Medium Set wedge - 500 x 349mm
  • Small Set Wedge - 370x225mm

The snakes (strips of weighted fabric) are available in 2 lengths - 1200mm or 900mm.
