Polyformes’Aspen Aerogel products are ideally suited for applications that require the ultimate in thermal and acoustical insulation performance. They can be put into continuous service at temperatures ranging from -273°C/-532°F up to 650°C.1200°F, with thermal conductivity ranging from 2-10 times lower than typical insulations. Several grades are opacified to reduce the impact of IR on thermal performance at higher temperatures.
Aerogel markets include aerospace, footwear and clothing, automotive, cryogenics, oil and gas, defence. This includes thermal and acoustic insulation, shock absorption, blast mitigation, infrared suppression and fire protection.
Pyrogel products can withstand an oxy-acetylene torch impinging on the bottom surface (impingement surface at 1000 degrees C) and maintain a surface temperature cool enough to touch.
Offshore Oil Aspen Aerogels is already at work in subsea applications saving millions of dollars due to reduced outer pipe diameters that result from the lower volume needed to provide the same or better thermal management levels compared to traditional insulations.
